NEW HAVEN CHRISTIAN CHURCH
"30 DAY PRAYER FOR OUR CHILDREN"
For years, like any responsible Christian parent, I and my wife Patti prayed for our three children, Arnold, Michael and Justin. We prayed for God's blessing and protection throughout their days. We prayed for them to be happy. We asked God to help them through difficult times and to help them make wise choices. Our prayers were regular, heartfelt and, for the most part, pedestrian and repetitive.
We wanted more than that, however. We wanted so much for our children, but when we knelt in prayer we invariably found the same tired words rolling from our lips.
Our concern that our children's Christian morals and the fruits of the Spirit had prompted us to develop a unique prayer list that included reminders to pray for our children's salvation and growth in grace, as well as other specific concerns.
Each day of the month, in addition to our prayers for their safety and for the concerns of that day, we also pray for a specific character trait, virtue or fruit of the Spirit to be planted and nurtured in our children.
Below is the monthly list I have developed, complete with brief suggestions for prayer from Scripture. Feel free to duplicate it-or improve upon it-to help you pray specifically and purposefully for your children.
After sever several weeks praying through this list an additional benefit to our prayer program: as I and Patti prayed with our children each night, the Lord brought to mind the subject we've prayed for that morning, and we would repeat our request in Arnold and Micheal' and Justin's hearing. Before long, they began to echo our praying and poured out their own hearts in prayer for the very virtues and qualities we desired to see in them. Thus, our simple prayer program not only changed how we prayed, but also how our children prayed - and by God's grace, how they live as well.
Please feel free to print this page out and use it.
